Introduction
When a plugin does not validate input properly, the event data and user information stored on a WordPress site can be exposed. The Community Events plugin, used to manage and submit events on WordPress, has a critical SQL injection vulnerability tracked as CVE-2025-10586. It affects all plugin versions up to and including 1.5.1 and lets authenticated users with minimal privileges compromise the underlying database.
Community Events is a third-party WordPress extension that lets site owners accept and manage events submitted by their community. It is less widely adopted than the flagship event management plugins, but a variety of organizations use it to build engagement around events on their sites.
Technical Information
CVE-2025-10586 is a SQL injection vulnerability caused by insufficient escaping of user-supplied input in the 'event_venue' parameter. The plugin does not properly sanitize this parameter, and it does not use prepared statements or parameterized queries when it queries the database. An authenticated attacker with Subscriber-level access or higher can therefore submit crafted input that changes the logic of the SQL query and may extract sensitive data from the WordPress database.
The vulnerability is classified as CWE-89 (Improper Neutralization of Special Elements used in an SQL Command). The attacker must be authenticated, but only at the Subscriber level, which many WordPress sites grant to any registered user. That raises the risk considerably, especially for sites with open registration or large user bases.
The referenced advisories include no public code snippets or specific vulnerable code lines. All versions up to and including 1.5.1 are affected. As of the publication date, there is no information on a patched version or an official fix.
